Sing for your Supper – 2nd December 2011

by Marilyn Timney

The scene was set – in the Barn House the candles flickered, the fairy lights twinkled, the pianist struck the first chords, and with one voice the assembled guests began to sing for their suppers. The enticing aromas wafting from the kitchen encouraged the singers to give of their best in well-known carols and Christmas songs.
After this, a wide variety of excellent canapés was enjoyed, followed by a delicious main course. Next there was more singing, and some more adventurous singers attempted the descant harmony in “The First Noel” – with varying success!

The desserts were greatly appreciated after all the singing, although more than a few people found it difficult to make a choice. The answer of course was to have a little of all of them. There was plenty for the sweet-toothed to have seconds too.

The raffle was drawn, and the winners suitably impressed with the prizes. Our hosts for the evening, Wendy and David Self, were presented with a “thank “you” for their hospitality, then there was a final round of singing, ending with a rousing rendition of “ We Wish You a Merry Christmas”, which made the rafters ring.

The organisation of the event was excellent, and ensured that everyone had a very enjoyable evening. Congratulations to everyone involved.
